Time started out with such promise.  The creation was perfect in every sense of the word.  There were no problems, at all.  Then with the entrance of sin, everything went wrong in a hurry.  By the second generation the human race was ready for CSI to investigate the murder of Abel. Evil was rampant, and it consumed people’s every waking thought.

Into this mess the Creator sent messenger after messenger to teach people a different and better way.  Time and time again the few bright spots that responded to the message were squashed by people reverting back to their evil and self-consuming natures.  Destruction, devastation and death were the legacy of the human race.  There was little hope if any that anything would ever change.

But then God decided to send His secret weapon into the world…a baby He named Jesus.  The meaning of His name was revealing: Yahweh (God) is salvation.  Who sends a baby to save the world?  How strange!  But God’s ways are not our ways, and so into this world Jesus came.

I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.  Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole beingrejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.” (Psalm 16:8-9) “So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:6)

Knowing where you come from is a key foundation to moving into the future with confidence.  This is why we have been spending time this fall refocusing on our foundational purposes in the Lord.  Unless we understand that our existence on earth is to bring glory to God, our future destination will be like King Solomon said, “a chasing after the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 1:14)  Without a firm grip on the Lord’s purpose for us we either, on the one hand, wander about in confusion and wonder what life is for.  On the other hand, we rush down the path of destruction driven by false understandings about God and this life.

October 2015

October is designated as pastor appreciation month. Appreciation doesn’t have to be in the form of a gift although that is nice. Each of us has unique gifts and talents that we can use to show our pastors that we appreciate them.

One way is to pray for our pastors by praying scripture (John 17; Ephesians 1:16-23; Ephesians 3:16-21; Ephesians 6:19-20) for them or asking what their specific needs are.  Let the pastors know that you are praying for them. Sending notes of appreciation about specific ways a message has helped you or telling them directly helps improve morale.

In early June, the Leadership Council named a Pastoral Search Committee and charged the committee with formulating and implementing a search for a Senior Pastor. The committee met and discussed a variety of approaches. We are privileged to have two Associate Pastors in Liz Green and Nate Crandall and felt “set” for the immediate future.  The committee encouraged input from the church family.  We talked to individuals and families, created a confidential e-mail address and scheduled two church forums to seek input.
