“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole beingrejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.” (Psalm 16:8-9) “So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:6)
Knowing where you come from is a key foundation to moving into the future with confidence. This is why we have been spending time this fall refocusing on our foundational purposes in the Lord. Unless we understand that our existence on earth is to bring glory to God, our future destination will be like King Solomon said, “a chasing after the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 1:14) Without a firm grip on the Lord’s purpose for us we either, on the one hand, wander about in confusion and wonder what life is for. On the other hand, we rush down the path of destruction driven by false understandings about God and this life.
